  • Name of the project: Urgent help to mother with babies refugees in Presevo

Context: In recent months a large number of refugees are crossing the border with Macedonia and being stationed in Presevo and Bujanovac. Daily entry is between 500-800 people, of which 40-60 children younger than 3 years. Among them is the large number of women with small children and babies, who do not have the money for the adequate care to babies, since the babies, mothers and young children need a special diet that those who are responsible, failed to provide. In the last week five women gave birth in the Vranje hospital and afterwards left to the mercy. They do not have enough money to buy diapers, baby cosmetics, and bottles. Most of them are referred to the collective centers in Serbia, but some don’t want to leave, so they are sleeping in parks with babies, alone, helpless and without any protection. Women refugees is steadily growing, and the need for baby cosmetics, diapers and milk is invaluable important, since the lack of food violates their basic rights and dignity. This situation certainly was not predicted, especially having in mind that responsible state institutions in this situation did not find a way to respond appropriately. Humanitarian food packages arrive, but they lack food for infants, small children and women who have recently given birth.
